Outdoor Interpreting Workshop: Introduction – 0.2 CEU $20 Registration Fee

Sam (Marlo) Bragg from CorpsTHAT will be providing an introductory online workshop about interpreting in the outdoor field.  This workshop will cover what outdoor interpreting is, what to expect and consider when interpreting out in the field. Gear needs including how to prepare, what to pack, wear and have while on outdoor interpreting assignments. The uniqueness that outdoor interpreting brings with interpreter boundaries while interpreting in the outdoor field. The different types of assignments and consumers an interpreter might work within the outdoor field including the socio-emotional learning process for consumers and different types of strategies for specific settings and environments. This workshop will also cover CDIs in the outdoor field and different trainings and certificates to consider taking to strengthen your outdoor interpreting knowledge.

 

The Educational Objectives for this workshop are:

  • Understand the basics of outdoor field
  • Know how to prepare and what to expect and consider as an interpreter taking an outdoor interpreting assignment
  • Exposure to common terminology (acronyms, techniques)
  • Exposure to types of training and experience necessary to take on outdoor interpreting assignments
  • Introduce interpreters to idea of ethical interpreting in the outdoors

This is the workshop for you if you are interested in enhancing your knowledge and skillset within the outdoor field. After completing this 2-hour workshop, you will receive 0.2 CEU from Vancro Integrated Interpreting Services.

 

Vancro Integrated Interpreting Services (VIIS) is an approved RID CMP sponsor for Continuing Education Activities.

This workshop is offered for.2 CEUs in the Professional Studies area at the “little to no” content knowledge level. Participants will receive a certificate of attendance. The target audience for this activity is: Interpreters who are interested in taking assignments that will take them outside.

If you attended the Outdoor Interpreting Workshop earlier this year during the same CEU cycle and received CEUs, you won’t be eligible to earn them again. However, you are welcome to join as a refresher to revisit the material and deepen your understanding.

 

 

 

 

 

 


Presenter’s Bio:

Sam (Marlo) Bragg

Sam is the seventh generation of a large, vibrant Deaf family in Maine’s Great Woods. After obtaining a Master’s degree in Outdoor Leadership from Saybrook University and National
Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), Sam joined CorpsTHAT’s team with the intention of building a bridge to connect the Deaf community and the outdoors through education, recreation, and careers. Sam is passionate about creating equitable and inclusive spaces in the outdoors for Deaf and hard-of-hearing folks, especially being in the field on and off for the past 12 years through different capacities. During Sam’s free time, Sam enjoys climbing, trail running, skiing, and backpacking.
